Engines and Performance

The two cars offer a similar choice of engine specifications. As standard, the Escape and the CR-V are both equipped with a 1.5L turbo engine, providing 179hp and 190hp respectively. However, the Escape has an additional option of a 2.5L turbo mill pushing out a much more impressive 250hp, taking the 2020 Ford Escape to another level of performance.

The Honda is fitted with a continuously variable transmission, which offers a respectably comfortable drive, but the Ford's eight-speed automatic box provides a noticeably smoother and nippier feel in most circumstances, including off-road adventuring.

Both cars are front-wheel drive as standard, with all-wheel drive available, but it should be noted that the Honda's AWD and CVT combination is perhaps more suited to winter driving than providing full off-road capability.

As is becoming increasingly common in the crossover SUV arena, both cars offer a hybrid option, with engine sizes of 2.0L for the Honda and 2.5L for the Ford.

Technology

Both cars are well equipped with technology, as you'd expect from modern SUVs aimed firmly at family drivers. However, the Escape benefits from Ford's excellent Co-Pilot 360 driver-assist suite, which includes pre-collision detection with automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and much more. This system alone makes the 2020 Escape an attractive buy-in safety terms.

2020 Ford Escape Review Verdict

Both the 2020 Ford Escape and the Honda CR-V are worthy contenders in the compact crossover segment. However, in this comparison review the better available engine, smoother transmission, and superior all-wheel-drive option pushes the Ford out ahead.
