New Features for 2021

The changes for 2021 are minor. The starting prices across the range have been reduced a little, while the range of standard features has been boosted to include extras like heated seats, larger wheels, and upgraded brake pads.

Exterior and Design

The original Explorer almost invented the template for the mid-size SUV format, and the latest version brings the design firmly up-to-date. The imposing front end sets a sleeker and more stylish than most of its competitors.

Performance

The standard Explorer powertrain is built around a 2.3L 4-cylinder turbo engine pushing out a hefty 300 horsepower. The output is passed through a ten-speed automatic transmission to rear-wheel drive as standard, with all-wheel drive an option.

While this base configuration offers great performance across all conditions, those looking for a real sports experience can upgrade to a 3.0L V6 mill, capable of cranking out up to 400 horsepower for a thrillingly athletic driving feel.

Infotainment

The interior is packed with advanced technology. Standard infotainment duties are handled by an 8" touchscreen that sits alongside a 6.5" gauge cluster display. Move up the trim levels and these screens are upgraded to 10.1" for infotainment and a fully digital 12.3" instrument cluster display.

All 2021 trims feature Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for smartphone integration, with extra connectivity provided by front-row USB ports and a Wi-Fi hotspot facility. Higher trims add in advanced navigation plus extra USB connections in the second row.
